How to get rid of strong kitchen smells – 9 top tips

Clean as you go

With particularly strong-smelling foods such as fish or curry, you should try to make sure to clean thoroughly as you cook.

Putting lids back on jars fully and washing down spillages will help to reduce smells.

Clean your sink

The sink can be a hub for strong odours.

If your sink is emitting unpleasant smells, you should boil a kettle and then pour it down the plughole.

This will often clean away stinky items from the pipes.

If this proves ineffective, you should pour two or three tablespoons of baking soda down the drain before adding two cups of white vinegar.

Leave this for a couple of minutes and then pour boiling water down the drain.
