The Katy beer distributor of Anheuser-Busch has teamed up with Houston-based Silver Eagle Distributors to encourage safe drinking during the Fourth of July festivities.
According to statistics from the Texas Department of Transportation, in Houston, about 32 percent more car crashes occur as a result of drunk driving over the Fourth of July weekend. There are approximately 75 percent more fatalities.
“We know that drunk driving accidents increase during holiday weekends, but we also know drunk driving is 100 percent preventable,” said Cynde Bard, corporate affairs manager for Silver Eagle Distributors. “Whether you call a cab, a rideshare service or designate a driver to get home, make sure you do your part to keep our roads, your loved ones and the Houston community safe.”
Through its “Enjoying Responsibly” campaign, the Katy distributor takes a three-part approach to spreading safe drinking education.
The most important aspect of safe drinking, according to a press release from Anheuser-Busch, is to secure a designated driver or rideshare plan before drinking to prevent drinking and driving.
The campaign also encourages drinkers to consume a 16-ounce bottle of water in between each alcoholic beverage to prevent dehydration.
The third preventative measure- never drink on an empty stomach. Drinking without eating causes alcohol to enter the bloodstream faster.
“If you are planning to toast our freedom by having a cold one, we hope that you’ll join us in our pledge to keep our celebrations safe by hydrating between (drinks) and planning ahead for safe rides home,” said Bard.
