PBR Releases Pack of 1,776 Beers For July 4th — Can You Even Buy It?

Fourth of July weekend is officially upon us and what better way to celebrate America’s 245th birthday with some beer? That is why PBR is offering a 1,776 pack — yes, a pack of beer with 1,776 beers in it — in order to properly commemorate Independence Day. Because nothing is more American than unnecessary ingenuity for the sake of spectacle.

“This is the Original Past Blue Ribbon 1776 Pack,” the package states on the front. “It can hold 1776 Pabst Blue Ribbon beers and infinite amounts of freedom. You’re welcome, America.”

But, sadly, there’s a major catch: You can’t actually buy the 1776 pack, as PBR has given one each to four different partners: Igloo Coolers, The Nine Club, comedian Ali Macofsky, and emo band Hot Mulligan. So unless you are included in one of those groups, you’ll have to give up on your dream of having 1,776 beers at your Fourth of July barbecue this weekend.

“We figured the best way to honor the year America claimed its independence was to make a box that held that many beers — 1,776. It’s the least we could do,” Nick Reely, PBR’s VP of marketing, explained jokingly in the announcement. “Actually 1,776 is the most we could do because 1,777 seemed excessive.”

Along with being unquestionably excessive, choosing 1,776 is also quite mathematical. Beyond just being a tribute to the year that the 13 colonies became the United States of America, 1,776 is also divisible by 24, equalling 74 cases of beer. So if you are still determined to have a patriotic and comically excessive amount of beers this weekend, you could head to the 76 liquor stores closest to you and grab a case at each. It also equals about 10.5 kegs, if that is your preferred method of beer consumption.

Or, if almost 2,000 beers is a few too many for your liking, you could always just go with PBR’s 99-pack, which is officially back in stores.
