How to overcome the fitness plateau
As your body gets used to the calories you burn and the level of activity you do, your metabolism decreases, and we need to jump start it again.Below are some ways to give your body an extra kick it needs to be Push across the plateau:
Cut more calories
No one should consume less than 1,200 per day, so if you still have room to trim some, do so. However, do not drop below that 1,200 calories. Eating less than 1,200 calories daily increases the risk of overeating because that amount of calories is not enough to reduce hunger.
Raise your training fever
The average person should exercise at least 30 minutes daily, 5 days a week. Anyone trying to cross a plateau needs to spend more time exercising than usual. If longer training is not possible, Lee recommends increasing the levels of activity and calories consumed during normal training session hours.
Do more activities outside the gym
Exiting the gym door doesn’t just stop burning calories. Do extra activity at other times during the day. For example, use stairs instead of elevators or increase garden work. The extra calories you burn by doing something a little different are nicely added and kick you out of the plateau.
Reassess your habits
Lee explains that it can be very easy to loosen the rules without really realizing that you are doing so. He recommends that everyone keep a diary of food and activities. Then you can look back and see if you’ve slipped around or loosened those rules. For example, have you been able to get away with less exercise lately? Have you been eating more calories lately? Research has shown that relaxing the rules can lead to plateaus.
The worst thing you can do is turn the plateau into a sinkhole. Instead, be honest with yourself and analyze your recent habits and what you can do to change your calorie intake and activity levels.
